What is a Deodorant?

deodorant is a substance which is applied under the armpits to remove or conceal the smell of sweat. When the body perspires, there is breakdown of bacteria that causes body odor in the armpits, groin and feet.

An Antiperspirant is a subclass of deodorants that prevents or reduces sweating typically by blocking sweat glands temporarily.

A Roll-on is a deodorant in a bottle that has a rolling ball set on its top for application purposes.

Deodorants and Antiperspirants are not the same. A deodorant controls body odor while an antiperspirant blocks sweat.

If you have minimal wetness, a deodorant will work just fine. If you want to control underarm wetness, an antiperspirant is ideal.

Use deodorant — It controls body odor.

Use an antiperspirant — It controls underarm wetness.

Most deodorants have aluminium for sweat blocking, antibacterial agents such as parabens and synthetic fragrances.

You could be allergic to the agents in your deodorant. Some people are allergic to fragrances or to the sweat-blocking aluminium in deodorants. We recommend this.

There is a popular myth that deodorant use is linked to breast cancer, but research has shown no such link exists.

In 1888, the first commercial Deodorant was introduced in Philadelphia by an inventor, Edna Murphy.

Deodorants are packaged and marketed for different genders but essentially they have the same ingredients but different scents. Most ladies prefer men’s deodorants with the claim that they protect more and last longer.

This is all based on preference. For some people, deodorant is enough while others must add on perfume/cologne.

The most important thing when using a deodorant is to slow down and give the entire armpit an even coat. Men should apply more pressure to get through the hair in their underarms.

For most people, a little amount is just enough but if you sweat more a generous spread is ideal.
